What W. H. Auden Can Do for You by Alexander McCall Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
An engaging introduction to a poet in whom I am sadly ill-versed.
This book is part literary biography, part self-help, part memoir, and altogether delightful. It persuaded me within the first few pages that I need more poetry, and specifically more Auden, in my life. The author’s deceptively conversational style is also challenging, philosophical, and knowledgable.
There are some friends you like even better because of the wonderful people they introduce you to. This book feels like making that sort of friend in Mr. McCall Smith.
