Tell me what to write! No, really…

by markheybo via FlickrIf I’ve ever bent your ear about a story I’m working on, you know I get rather dicey about accepting input before a draft is finished. It would be a good lesson for me in keeping my mouth shut, if I could learn it.

But this time, I really want you to tell me, “Know what would be cool? If this happened…” You’d better take advantage while you can.

The reason for this change is a brand-new web serial I’m working on. It’s a real departure from my Mottley stories, because it’s contemporary Chick Lit. But don’t worry! There will be a mystery element that comes into play as the series progresses. It’s a legal drama called Survivor’s Trust.

Survivor’s Trust is a form I’ve never worked in before – interactive fiction. There’s a new episode every week, and the readers vote on what happens next. It’s a wonderful puzzle and challenge for a plotter like me, to have these great big question marks all over my pretty outline. Wonderful? Okay, nail-biting. Doing the thing that scares you is supposed to be good, right?

So if getting to boss me around isn’t incentive enough for you, when you sign up to vote you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift card from Amazon. Free books, y’all. Read my story, get free books. What are you waiting for?

Oh yeah, the link.

Survivor’s Trust, an interactive web serial.

What if you lost everything you ever wanted, and had just one chance to get it back?

Hotshot attorney Cordelia Simms needs a do-over. She spent her whole life being perfect, and it nearly destroyed her — now she’s got a long to-do list, and “perfect” isn’t on it. She negotiates a minefield of old money and modern office politics, while family conflict and dangerous secrets threaten to drag her down for good.

Episode 1: “Today could be the day I get my life back, if I survive it.”
